What is Project Pray

Doug often says that he “backed into” the prayer movement. After almost two decades of offering teaching-training ministry to local churches, prayer, he discovered was the missing element in both the life of the church and the personal daily life of the typical believer. For that reason, Alive Ministries refocused much of its attention to prayer training, offering Schools of Prayer and coaching in the area of prayer ministries.

The heart of prayer is worship – a love relationship with God through Christ. And the edge of prayer is always mission. The goal of prayer is for us to so experience the transforming love of God in intimacy with him that we end up as channels of that same love to those who don’t have a personal and vitally transforming relationship with God, through Jesus Christ. Prayer can never be a mere sweet private thing. The goal is personal awakening, spiritual renewal in us and others, in the church and the city, and finally, cultural transformation.

Transforming Churches into Houses of Prayer

Jesus said, “My house shall be a house of prayer – for the nations!” Project Pray is working to help churches bring prayer back to the center of all they do. Doug’s book, “Transforming the Church into a House of Prayer”, and the accompanying DVD training series, are designed to coach church prayer leaders in establishing effective prayer and evangelism ministries in their congregation. The book is now in its second printing.

A more recent book, "Prayer - the Heartbeat of the Church" comes with a companion resource guide, a six-week devotional guide, a leader's guide, and a DVD. It is great series for the whole church. Chapters include: What is prayer?; Personal prayer; Family Prayer; the Church at Prayer; Prayer Evangelism; and Longing for a Great Awakening! Transformational Prayer Encounters

Doug has conducted prayer summits with pastors and marketplace leaders of virtually every denomination in the nation. In these events, hearts have melted and bonds of unity have formed. In dozens of cities where prayer summits have been held, pastors continue to pray together and conduct unified efforts designed to demonstrate the love of God to the community.

Schools of Prayer

Six different "Schools of Prayer" are available to be hosted by local churches. Each School is typically a day-long, six-hour prayer training experience. Schools are offered in three different areas - prayer leadership training, learning about prayer and experiencing prayer. Some of the Schools are available on DVD. Sponsor a School of Prayer. The registration threshold is only 100 participants.

Prayer Impact Sundays

When Doug speaks for local churches, he encourages them to make the day extraordinary by packing it with multiple learning and prayer experience opportunities. Consider hosting a "Prayer Impact Sunday" at your church!

Family Life Enrichment

Doug often speaks at couple's events, men's retreats and family conferences. Alive Ministries offers a Family Life Enrichment seminar. In fact, there is a build-your-own option available. The Couple's Clinic is the family life seminar Doug has presented to thousands of couples. In that experience, couples learn about the stages of marriage - the tough times. They discover their learned conflict style and basic relfective listening skills that focus on conciliation. They look at the Jesus-style of forgiveness.
